David didn't need God. Secretly, Emily believed her husband thought he was God. The owner of a successful business, David was practically a poster child for self reliance.

Things started changing the moment Dave's doctor spoke the word carcinoma. Cancer surgeries and treatments landed him flat on his back, and the effect on his company was immediate. Bankers were giving him nervous calls on the day he received a pastoral visit from St. Bartholomew's (where he and Emily had been very infrequent visitors.)

To make a long and melodramatic story short, both David and Emily found a new and vibrant faith in Christ. They also rediscovered their church, and found it to be a place of help and comfort for people who seek to deepen a fundamental Christian commitment. They love the opportunities for daily worship, and have found a group of friends who make Christ a real part of their daily lives.

The business is still there, and David still signs the checks. The only difference is the CEO is now a new man. He gives the thanks not to St. Bartholomew's but to God. We wouldn't have it any other way.
